I first heard Jud's name the week we installed Brian Mock's Gaia Rising, sited up near the front of the property where it's visible from the road. A neighbor walked by the next day and asked if it was Jud's work. It wasn't, but if a stranger could see the resemblance, I figured I should look into him.

His website was enough to hook us. The same eye for found objects as Brian Mock, but with a style all his own. I need to cross paths with this guy, I thought.

In 2025, we went to an art exhibition in downtown Eugene benefiting a cause we care about, and Galatea was in the window. We saw it before we'd even reached the door and we bought it on the spot.

There is a small wetlands next to the vineyard. We'd been saving this spot for the right piece, and this was it. It's the wettest, most lush spot on the property, exactly where a sea creature like Galatea belongs.

Jud, and his partner Renee, a fine sculptor herself, have become friends and they have visited the property several times since.
